It's always been "UCLA against the World," but now it's personal. Bruin Cheerleaders have always been the best in the business, but now they have to prove it in Cyberspace.
Luckily for UCLA, CBS Sportsline.com picked an excellent representative of the Bruin squad -- a Senior named Chelsey. She's been a personal favorite of ours for years -- there's a REASON why she's front-and-center in so much of our photography -- and now she's about to become the personal favorite of the United States. Chelsey is being pitted against other Cheerleaders from across the Country in an Elimination Tournament. She has already won a couple of Rounds, but to be honest, the competition was NOT STIFF. In the current Round, she is pitted against a girl from LSU. Chelsey should be an easy winner, but the trojan Editors at CBS have decided to sabotage her. While they always use the same photo of each girl in each round, they, this time, UN-CROPPED the photo of the LSU girl so that it now shows her "tap pants," or what you mistakenly assume is underwear. Well, the "panty vote" is likely to give the LSU girl a surge in popularity, so Chelsey just might need your help... that is, if all the letters we receive begging us for similarly un-cropped photos is any indication.
So don't let CBS' panty favoritism kill Chelsey's run. A National Title in this endeavor might not count as UCLA's 100th, but it would do well to further UCLA's reputation as having the best looking girls in the Country. In fact, today a long-time reader sent in a Playboy Ranking that had UCLA as #3 in the Nation in that exact category, behind only Texas and ASU. Of course, u$c didn't even crack the Top Ten. Apparently, Hugh Hefner is immune to all the bribe money that sc probably tried to throw at him. Then, reportedly, when Mike Garrett asked Hugh about UCLA beating sc, Hefner responded: "Just like Football."
Getting back to Sports...
Jordan Farmar was HUGE in the Lakers' dramatic victory over the Nets in New Jersey. The 99-95 win completes a season sweep for the Lakers over recovered wife-beater Jason Kidd and his Nets. The Lakers built a lead early in the 4th quarter, when Farmar was running the Offense. He scored in double-figures, but it was his skill at being a Floor General that was truly impressive, especially for a Rookie. He even made the SportsCenter highlight reel with a nifty alley oop pass that Kobe guided into the basket.
When Farmar came out, the Lakers blew their lead. Vince Carter had a shot to tie it with a few seconds left, but missed, completing the Sweep for L.A.
If Farmar was "huge" in the Lakers' win, then Baron Davis was Gargantuan in the Golden State Warriors' victory over Orlando. Baron, who has been showing lately that when healthy he's one of the best Point Guards in History, scored a season-high THIRTY-EIGHT points and had 9 Assists in a 117-108 ROAD victory. By the way, in this game, Orlando's Trevor Ariza had a career-high 23 points (and 6 Rebounds) in a losing effort.
Baron and Jordan and Trevor -- Even though they all left TOO EARLY (for us), we're still rooting them on.
While seeing those guys leave was painful, it's nothing compared to saying goodbye to Chelsey, who is in her last year in Westwood. Let's send her off with the sweet taste of Victory, okay? It's the least we can do, after all the pleasure that she has brought to us.
Below are 5 captioned photos of Chelsey's teammates, with a little bit of Chelsey mixed in there too, if you look closely (and we're sure you will).
