Reggie Bush will NOT be going to Disneyland this year. And neither will Drew Brees, Deuce McAllister, or any of Reggie Bush's New Orleans Saints teammates, thanks to Reggie's over-inflated ego.
Trailing 16-7 early in the NFC Championship Game, Reggie was the recipient of an illegal pick play that left him wide open in the secondary for an easy 88-yard TD. At the end of the play, Reggie turned and pointed at his Chicago Bear pursuers. As if that wasn't classless enough, he then performed his signature taunt: an unneeded somersault into the end zone. Apparently, that doesn't draw a penalty flag, as many would expect. Isn't that "Taunting" or at least "Unsportsmanlike Conduct?" Anyway, he added an effeminate little dance in the end zone, despite the fact that his team was still down 16-13 (going on 14).
So was Bush going to be the Hero of New Orleans for pulling off the longest TD in the History of the Conference Championship Game?
Not quite. His little "show" caught the eye of more than one Bear, and the Home team suddenly took it up to another level. They were NOT going to be shown up by some Rookie in Soldier Field. Not in THEIR OWN HOUSE. And definitely not in the snow.
The weather was perfect for the Bears. After letting a 16-0 lead diminish to 16-14, the snow flurries picked up, just as the anger of the Bears did after witnessing Bush's somersault.
Soon after that play, the Bears' Defense caused Saint QB Drew Brees to ground it in the end zone for a Safety, making it 18-14. Still fired up, the Bears went on to score three more Touchdowns, and cruise to an easy 39-14 victory. The win sends the Bears to Miami for the Super Bowl, and sends the Saints back to New Orleans for a six-month vacation.
The Bears' Defense, which includes Bruins Ricky Manning jr. and Pro Bowler Brendon Ayanbadejo, held the Saints to 56 yards rushing, and caused 4 Turnovers. Those two Bruins will be playing against another Bruin on February 4th in the Super Bowl, because Bryan Fletcher's Indianapolis Colts came back to knock out the New England Patriots 38-34. Pat QB Tom Brady threw an Interception that killed his team's chances. Right before that, Fletcher came in at Tight End for the Colts when Ben Utecht went down with an injury, and Fletcher responded, catching a 23-yard pass for a huge first down on the game-winning drive.
So at least one Bruin will be going to Disneyland, and the White House, after winning the upcoming Super Bowl. And as far as we can tell, neither Super Bowl team has a trojan on their roster. Woo-hoo. Makes you want to do a somersault.
