FOOTLOOSE AND DANCEY-FREE
Where's Kevin Bacon? Bruin Dance Team banned from dancing their Title-Winning Dance at Halftime, after which UCLA cooks Cal's bacon, 85-75
Who pulled the plug on our Champion Spark Plugs?

First of all, let us apologize again for giving out false hope. We had good inside info when the special routine reprisal was scheduled, but found out about the cancellation too late.

So even now, even with our inside sources, we still don't know why the plan for UCLA's 2007 National Champion Dance Team to perform their Title-Winning routine on Thursday Night did NOT materialize. And let us also say right now that we don't know if they will get to do it on Saturday at the Stanford game. We HOPE so, and THEY hope so, but with a planned celebration of the 1967 Champions including Kareem, it seems unlikely that the Girls will be allotted the time they need.

Here's the sad part: It's been reported that there was a boring 10-minute lull during Halftime last night, when the Girls COULD have done their number. Instead, the fans apparently got treated to some nice piped-in elevator music.

Now here's the good news, for those of you who are REALLY into it (as much as we are): SUPPOSEDLY, the Girls WILL finally be performing this now-famous routine on SUNDAY, at the Bruins' Gymnastics meet.

By the way, there was a Basketball game last night...

The Bruins started slowly, falling way behind, but catching up by Halftime. Then the disappointment of no dance, and then the Bruins came out ON FIRE. It was as if they were as mad as we were about the apparent snub.

They turned a close game into a 20-point game in about 6 minutes, behind more stellar play from Darren Collison and Josh Shipp, with solid support from both AA's, Luc, and a stunning performance by Lorenzo Mata: 8-for-9 from the Free Throw line, having come in at 30%. Russell Westbrook also supplied a spark with two potential three-point plays right after entering the game (for a foul-plagued Collison).

But it was the 25-5 spurt shortly after the boring Halftime that put Cal away. The Bruins led by 24 before the Reserves let Cal make the final score respectable. In fact, in the final minutes when it got down to 14 and Cal called time out, Ben Howland put Afflalo and Collison back into the game to close it out. The announcers felt like he did it because he was mad at Ben Braun calling the time out in a game that was just being played out mercifully. We think it was because bigger leads have disappeared in less time, and Howland -- at least -- wanted good Free Throw shooters in the game, in case Braun instructed his players to foul (which he didn't).

It was another great TEAM win, with all the Starters contributing, and Aboya, Roll, and Westbrook too. It was the 19th straight Home win for UCLA, and the first over Cal at Home in 3 years, as UCLA continues to re-align all the planets the way they were in the 70's.

Can you say "Dynasty?" And will they let 'em Dance AFTER the Bruins win it all?

Below are 6 more photos of the vaunted, and undaunted though suddenly haunted, Champion Dance Team. These are shots that didn't make the cut from the other day's article, but you might like them anyway. An average pic of these Girls is better than a high-priced professional Glamour Shot of anyone else.
