Does Pete Carroll know that the Death Penalty is coming to USC? If the NCAA was finally going to take action for Bushgate, and Carroll knew it, he would very likely pull up stakes and head back to the NFL. If that were happening, then Pom Pom would have to alert potential employers as to his impending availability.
Jim Harbaugh is the new Coach of Stanford, but he still maintains extensive ties to the NFL. So if the word is out that Carroll is leaving, then Harbaugh could easily know early. And according to Harbaugh, Carroll has already made travel plans.
Harbaugh says that his inside sources have told him that Pete plans on spending only one more season at Figueroa Tech, before taking his second crack at the Pro's (which couldn't be worse than his first).
Harbaugh was pressed on the issue, but stood by his word. He says that he has heard it from multiple reliable sources.
Why would Harbaugh fabricate this story if it weren't true? Because he now coaches in the Pac-10, and has to compete with SUC year in, year out. No one likes getting blown out repeatedly, so it's in Harbaugh's best interest to discourage potential recruits from attending sc.
It doesn't matter that they are not usually recruiting the same players. Obviously, any player that has the brains for Stanford wouldn't consider throwing his education away on a Ballroom Dancing degree from South Central Trade Tech. But they still have to play each other, so the negative recruiting angle is still a viable explanation of why Harbaugh would perpetuate this story, even if he knows it to be a crock of sh*t.
Today's photos are from the Avila Beach area, at a restaurant called The Olde Port Inn, half way back from the San Jose Regional (which UCLA won). We hope they receive your Seal of Approval.
