Why in the World would someone RUN when O.J. is coming?
Apparently, Nick Young is one trojan who doesn't want to be a condom any more. And you can blame it partially on the incoming condiment: This hot dog doesn't want to stick around and play Paul Shaffer to O.J. Mayo's Letterman.
Young knows that whatever success comes along with O.J. Mayo next year, O.J. will get all the credit and accolades. Young would be in Mayo's Media shadow all year long, so he'd rather be somewhere else.
His decision to enter the NBA early, which is expected to be announced on Tuesday, throws a monkey wrench into Mayo's Carmelo Plan for sc. It's going to be a lot harder to match or exceed this year's Sweet 16 run without their best player. Young had been hinting that he would come back, to compete for a Title with Mayo. However, all that hope (for trojans) turned out to be bull, so Mayo has a right to be pissed off. Does that mean that he had to go cruising to that place to pick up something to "drown his sorrows" -- Make that: "Make his sorrows go UP IN SMOKE." ??
The trojans will still be a Top 20 team all year long, provided Gabe Pruitt and Taj Gibson don't follow Young's lead. The word on Pruitt is that he WILL return, and Gibson was always a longshot to leave this year, so Floyd should be in good shape even without Young... Just not Final Four material like across town.
Also, you never know when an alleged Stoner will just "go off." Look at Ricky Williams, who just up and quit the Dolphins to go smoke Pot on an Island for a while. Or look at Snoop Dogg, an ADMITTED Stoner and de facto trojan Mascot, who just got sentenced for drug AND gun offenses.
If O.J. is really a toker as suspected, with a history of self-control issues, under this kind of National Media pressure, he could be a ticking time bomb, just waiting to implode, and take the whole Program down with him.
----------------
Speaking of taking a Program down: For those of you who missed the news yesterday, the Bruins' remarkable comeback victory over sc in Baseball made UCLA the Winner of this year's Lexus Gauntlet Trophy, indicative of multi-sport dominance in The Rivalry.
What a great weekend for that to happen, as yesterday was not only Bruin Kareem Abdul Jabbar's Birthday, it was also the 60th anniversary of Bruin Jackie Robinson breaking the Color Barrier. Now there are two UCLA representatives that make you proud to be Bruins... especially when you consider that the trojans' #1 alum is the Double-Murderer of the Century.
All the Dodgers wore jersey #42 as they honored Jackie and his family, then whipped San Diego. Teams around the League also honored Robinson, a heroic Bruin who continues to be one of the World's most respected people.
--------------
And speaking of respect, Jordan Farmar finally got some from Phil Jackson, and it paid off for the Lakers. Farmar got his first Career START, and the Lakers went on to clinch a Playoff spot. Jordan had 9 points and 3 Assists, but it was his energy, style, body language, and attitude that vitalized the hibernating Lakers into the victory over a pesky-though-Watson-less Seattle Supersonic squad. Oh, and by the way, Kobe's 50 points didn't hurt Jordan's efforts to get the Lakers back on track.
The Lakers have one more game before the Playoffs, where they are likely to meet Phoenix. Farmar might be a little overmatched by League MVP Steve Nash, but Jackson's best chance of winning begins with keeping Farmar in the starting line-up, and bringing Smush Parker off the bench as more of a shooter/instant offense guy. The Triangle Offense will run better with Jordan in charge. Not well enough to beat Phoenix, but maybe well enough to secure Jordan the starting job for next year. And it might be too much to ask for the Lakers to draft Arron Afflalo, but let's just hope that they DON'T draft Nick Young!!!

BECAUSE you made yesterday a RECORD DAY for us, WITH NO COMPLAINTS, here are a dozen more shots from the Pool -- All sc girls. And if you're wondering, there are STILL a lot more where these came from.
