RUBY REDRESS
O.J.'s delusion of having the public's support is shattered by the standing ovation for Steakhouse Owner Jeff Ruby's principled refusal to serve him; Simpson may sue, by digging up the Race Card
Jeff Ruby better count his steak knives.

Can you blame a guy for not wanting O.J. Simpson around all those carving utensils?

Restauranteur of the Century Jeff Ruby just did something that no one else has had the balls to do: He stood up to O.J. When "Simpson, Party of Twelve" came into Ruby's "Jeff Ruby Louisville" Steakhouse on the night before the Kentucky Derby, Ruby went up to them and told them that they would not be served in his Restaurant. Of course Simpson ignored him, and did not leave. So Ruby had to go back again and reiterate his non-negotiable decision. Only at THAT point did Simpson and his posse get up and leave.

As they exited, a crowd of about 50 diners got up and cheered Ruby's courage and integrity. Afterwards, Ruby said that he didn't want O.J. in his place of business not only because O.J.'s a double-murderer, but also because of the way he has misbehaved and flaunted his escape from justice. Especially bothersome to Ruby was the "If I Did It" book attempt. He feels that the victims' families deserve some sort of redress, but that the only way he can help them is to deny service to the man who ruined their lives. So, perhaps spurred on by the look of disgust on his patrons' faces upon Simpson's arrival, Ruby had the guts to disregard the "celebrity" connection for his Restaurant, and kick O.J.'s ass out on the street.

Ruby said that leaving without a fight was the first non-SCummy thing O.J.'s done since the acquittal.

Well, O.J. was unable to get a streak going. In fact, his next move might be an incredibly SCummy one: He may try to sue Ruby... for RACIAL discrimination. His new legal dream team, namely Yale Galanter, sounds like he's no Johnnie Cochrane. Maybe Johnnie Cockring, as he is trying to claim that the banishment had something to do with O.J.'s RACE! Where in the hell did he come up with THAT? It wouldn't matter if O.J. were White, Black or Purple. It's his Cardinal & Gold ATTITUDE -- the blatant and intentional disrespect for his victims' families -- that got him thrown out of Ruby's Louisville on the eve of the Big Race.

And speaking of Race, the Race Card worked once, so why not try again? Maybe a Judge or jury in Kentucky will slice O.J. some slack.

Galanter's thug-like threat that Ruby "has screwed with the wrong guy" makes you wonder if Ruby is going to wake up with a Kentucky Derby-loser's head in his bed tomorrow. And was Galanter holding a steak knife when he said it?

Also, if Simpson wins punitive damages in the suit, would the money go directly to the Goldmans to fulfill a tiny portion of the judgement? Maybe we should be rooting for O.J. to win, just to help the victim-families. Of course, it's not RUBY'S money that they deserve.

For years O.J. has been boasting that the public has been embracing him since the trial. He always talks about how people are so nice and gracious to him, as if he were once again the beloved Football Hero of the 70's.

Well, maybe they just don't want to get butchered? Maybe they are afraid to show a brutal cold-blooded killer that they aren't all that fond of him. It's like the evil Twilight Zone kid who wishes people into the cornfield -- You have to at least make him THINK that you like him.

But when people are SAFE from sharp objects, they let their true feelings be known. And in this case, it's that they DON'T want to break bread with a killer, especially in a Restaurant with 8 serrated blades on every table. "Dine & Dash" is bad enough, but "Dine & Slash" is much worse.

Face it, O;J.: Even David Hasselhoff is more popular than you, and not just in Germany. In fact, Alec Baldwin can call his daughter a fat pig over and over, but he'd have to stick an apple in her mouth and roast her on a spit luau-style before he'd be as un-popular as O.J. is (and will always be, except among his fellow trojans, who will continue to worship him forever).
