Osaar Rasshan will NOT be in jeopardy without his protective red "do not hit" jersey... because no one can get a clean shot at him anyway.
Until last week, Rasshan was the Bruins' 3rd String Quarterback, but his lack of passing expertise had him allegedly struggling to keep from falling to 4th String. However, it hadn't escaped the notice of Coaches and fans that when Rasshan scrambled, he was Vince Young-elusive. So, the task was to somehow get Rasshan onto the field, without potential Superstar Ben Olson having to give up any snaps.
And in the tradition of Drew Bennett, Rasshan is now a Wide Receiver. It will be interesting to see Osaar on an End Around. Don't be surprised to see him reverse his field, traversing the entire width of the gridiron, slipping tackle after tackle, until he's doing the Rasshan Ra-Shuffle in the end zone.
His history as a QB will cause Defenses to expect him to PASS after receiving the ball, ala Freddie Mitchell, but that will just make him more dangerous and effective when he tucks the ball and takes off down the field.
The other "alleged" part of this story is the report of Osaar having "great hands." If it's true that he can catch an Olson bomb, it gives the Bruins a TALL Receiving threat that they have been missing. But still, we think it's all about his elusiveness -- His creative improvisation while carrying the ball and avoiding defenders. The trick is to get him the ball in the open field, against a spread-out Defense. With McGee gone, we wonder if Rasshan has tried out for Punt Returner?
Regardless, he won't wear the Red shirt any more, and hopefully, no opponent will get a grip on his blue or white ones either.
