What happens when a Dorrell-hater faces the World? Will he find support, or will he be drummed off the air?
The answer to this and many other important questions will be discovered tonight at 6PM, when the first-ever episode of "The Bruin Show" is "aired."
This brand new Internet Call-In Talk Show is the joint effort of three well-known Bruin bloggers, including a "dumpdorrell" guy.
The show is easily and FREELY available at www.bruinshow.com, and is scheduled to be on every Wednesday night at 6PM. Listeners can call in, and join the debates, in real time.
It will be interesting to see if the guy who really put this all together can keep his anti-Karl associate under control. Because even if you agree that UCLA should have a better Coach, it's hard to talk about ANYTHING with these haters, because EVERYTHING is Dorrell's fault.
If this guy is a one-note whiner who dominates the conversation, the show has no hope. Of course, if the Bruins falter on the field, THEN the dumpers will have plenty of support. And if that does occur, the only people listening would be the haters who are relishing in Karl's lack of success.
But if the Bruins do nothing but win, they will keep these people somewhat at bay... like vultures, waiting anxiously for the first loss.
We hope that the SHOW steers clear of that specific controversy, which has already been beaten into the ground.
If this dump guy is able to keep his agenda in his pocket, the show could be great. WE have been asked to take part, but we want to make sure we wouldn't be hitching our wagon to a closed-minded jerk with a trojan-like attitude and no respect for UCLA. If he passes the audition, and if anyone is listening, and ONLY if the Bruins are winning, we might join in the fun... as long as there's nothing rotten in Denmark...
And speaking of Scandinavia, is there something rotten in Jamere Holland? Well, you KNOW that there's something rotten in South Central -- the (trojan) "air," to mention one thing.
Apparently, Pom Pom Pete has kicked the former Taft High stand-out Wide Receiver Jamere Holland off the sc Football team.
What is it with Carroll and Woodland Hills Wide Outs? Can't he control these kids from the Jewish suburbs? First there was Steve Smith (also from Taft), who got into a fight with trojan teammate Dominique Byrd, over a Video Football game gambling debt, and Smith broke the Tight End's jaw. Now, Holland loses interest in Pete's Program.
And to think that both of these problems for Carroll came from the same High School that gave UCLA model citizen Jordan Farmar. If any up and coming Taft stars are paying attention, the message is clear: Steer clear of South Central, and just take the 101 to the 405 to Westwood.
As rumors swirl as to the reason for the break-up, Pete was coy and secretive with Reporters. Jamere gets to keep his scholarship, but will probably soon transfer. Supposedly, Holland was moping around, missing rehab sessions, and feeling totally jaded about being a trojan. In other words, it looks like Petey just pulled the plug in a PRE-EMPTIVE measure to avoid the humiliation of having TWO supposed stars TRANSFER OUT within days of each other.
Holland was probably about to join Tailback Emmanuel Moody, sc's 2nd leading rusher, who stunned sc when he bailed on South Central last week. Apparently, Holland was asking Moody about his decision to transfer, right before Carroll called.
These things tend to domino, so as the depth chart solidifies, don't be surprised if a few more rats jump off the sinking ship. Sadly, about 25 would have to leave before it ever showed up on the field. In fact, if they are denied a BCS berth this season, it will be due to "Bushgate" sanctions, NOT some malcontent quitters fleeing the team.
But you just KNEW: That The Trojan Tailback Tally couldn't stay at TEN.
And speaking of TEN, congratulations to the Angel who refuses to transfer, Garret Anderson. Against the Yankees last night, G.A. set the All-Time Angel Franchise Record for RBI's in a Game, with, you guessed it, TEN Runs Batted In, in the 18-9 Yank-spanking.
Garret had been verbally pricked by T.J Simers in the L.A. Times yesterday morning, for not having any power, and Garret said in the article that he just really sucked right now. Well, Garret responded to the intended "motivation" by hitting a 2-run Double in the 1st, another RBI Double in the 3rd, then a 3-run Homer in his next at bat, followed by a Grand Slam in the 6th.
Garret came up in the 8th with a chance to set tha All-Time MAJOR LEAGUE Record: There were two men on base, so another Homer would have given him 13 RBI's, which would have beat the A.L. Record by 2, and the MLB Record by 1. But G.A. hit a sharp grounder up the middle, which was fielded niftily for the out.
So Anderson will have to settle for breaking teammate Vladimir Guerrero's old Record of 9 RBI's in a Game, which big Daddy Vladdy did against the Red Sox a while back.
And Garret did it, all thanks to Simers?
Well, not really, but if you remember, Simers once got in Kobe's face, about his inability to hit 3-pointers, and Kobe went out THAT NIGHT and set the arc on fire, and Records fell that night as well. People hate Simers, and that hate really can translate to intensity during the game.
We just hope that no trojan players are coming HERE, and having someone READ THIS TO THEM.
And finally, just to end on a Bruin Football note:
People are panicked about Pat Cowan's Hamstring injury. With Cowan out, and with former QB Osaar Rasshan at WR, the back-up is now inexperienced McLeod Bethel-Thompson.
So fans are nervous: "What if Ben Olson gets injured?" It's a legitimate, if obvious, concern, but here's another, more immediate concern: The conservative Offensive approach that has marked Karl Dorrell's tenure is now MANDATORY. Olson is going to be schooled like Drew Olson was a few years back: Prority #1 is going to be Protecting Ben. This will "hamstring" the Offense, but it's hard to argue with the rationale.
Ben won't be allowed to run, and he will be throwing balls away left and right. The Bruins will now run more than they would have otherwise, and the odds of them fielding a truly free-wheeling Offense this year just became long.
This may sound like Dorrell-bashing, but like we said: He doesn't really have a choice, unless you feel comfortable with Bethel-Thompson at the helm of the complex West Coast Offense. Even if they simplify the WCO for him, it's not a scenario that Bruins want to encounter (memories of John Barnes aside). Therefore, it is not stupid to get a little conservative right now.
We'll leave the bashing to others -- And whether or not that bashing will occur tonight on the Bruin Show is about to be determined. If it does, will YOU be there to respond?
